The National Sports Cars Club of Dayton, Ohio is an
independent car club founded in 1959 by employees at
National Cash Register. Whatever the original purpose of
the club, the club's focus quickly became road rallies. By
the early sixties the club's sole function was the
organization and presentation of road rallies. Times have
changed and the cars members use to pursue this activity
have changed also. In the sixties members ran rallies in
MGBs, Triumph TR3s and TR4s, Corvairs, Alfa Romeos,
Jaguars, Austin-Healeys and the occasional Mustang, Camaro
or Corvette. Today members are more likely to drive Honda
Civics, Dodge Neons, Eagle Talons, Jeep Cherokees or the
occasional Triumph TR6, but the activity is still the same.
A road rally is still an automotive competition of
precision driving and a test of wits between competitor and
rallymaster.
NSC continues to organize 10 rallies a year. They are
primarily Time-Speed-Distance rallies, but with the
occasional question and answer fun rally like the annual
August 'Out in the Boondocks' rally for the Kettering Parks
and Recreation Department.
So, what is a Road
Rally?
